Today in Swakopmund, Namibia, I ventured outside the city center to a lovely place called Karakulia Weavers which makes rugs out of sheep wool. I read about it online, and showed up early morning to see what it’s all about.
Turns out, this place is amazing! It’s a giant workshop that makes the most beautiful rugs and hanging carpets out of sheep wool, from start to finish. They do everything in house, hand-weaving each rug to perfection. Every artist (weaver) has their own designs, but they also take custom orders if you bring them a photo — they will duplicate it.
This video probably won’t get the most views or likes, but it was so interesting to see how these carpets are made and I ma happy to share their story with you.
More to come tomorrow from the unique Himba Tribe of Namibia!
