WELCOME TO KARBALA, IRAQ. This is the site of the world’s largest pilgrimage, where every October, over 15 MILLION Shia Muslims walk from neighboring countries to show respect to Imam Hussain’s shrine (grandson of prophet Muhammad). Even though I am not visiting in October, I can feel the spirit in the air unlike any place I’ve ever been.
The mosques and mausoleums are STUNNING, and somehow, I got special VIP access into the back room to meet with the boss… and he gave me permission to film inside. This kind of permission is unheard of!
But my favorite thing about Karbala is the hospitality. You’ve probably noticed a theme by now – that the Middle East has the most hospitable people in the world and a perfect example of this is Karbala!
The main mosque provides hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of FREE meals to anyone who stops by. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life… And not only that, but the local people will open their doors to all visitors.
We randomly got invited into a family’s home where they cooked us a 10 course meal.
All of that and more in this amazing episode, which I hope will change your perspective about Iraq.
If you’re still reading this, just know that I love you and thanks so much for watching my videos and supporting me over the years. I am in my happiest place right now, traveling through Iraq proper, and I’m just so grateful to be able to share these stories with you. More to come next week!
