As many of you may know, Venezuela has been experiencing the worst economic downfall in the history of the world. It’s more than twice as severe as the U.S. Great Depression, and I simply cannot ignore this sad reality as I am visiting the country…
The main driver for this economic crisis is oil.
Nearly a century ago, massive oil reserves were discovered off the Northern coast of Venezuela, which is why the country used to be the wealthiest in Latin America (in the 1960s and 1970s)… But sadly, a series of poor decisions, mismanagement and (recent) U.S. sanctions has crippled its economy to pieces. Nowadays, despite having one of the world’s largest oil reserves, there is a HUGE gas shortage and the locals have to wait in their car HOURS or even DAYS just to fill up their gas tank. It’s a very sad reality and I’ve never seen anything like it before in all of my travels to 194 countries. My heart is with the people of Venezuela and I sincerely hope that the situation gets better so the country can thrive again like the olden days.
Join me in this part-documentary, part-adventure vlog as I educate you about the devastating gas crisis in Venezuela.
