Believe it or not, there is an entire language in the Philippines that is spoken, written and understood by members of LGBTQ+ community and those who associate with them.
It’s known officially as “Swardspeak,” unofficially known as “Gay Lingo,” and in a nutshell, it’s a mixture of Tagalog, English, Spanish and random celebrity names or random objects which means specific things when used in certain contexts.
In my opinion, gay lingo is one of the most uplifting and admirable things about modern Filipino culture, and as someone who can speak Spanish and understand basic Tagalog, it’s a very unique blend to my ears.
Have you ever heard of Gay Lingo before? What are your thoughts about it?
