I just spent the most money I’ve EVER spent in one single day. Seven thousand United States dollars ($7,000 USD). I’m so full of emotions right now (excited, nervous, happy, anxious) that I’m not sure how to react…
The $7,000 was spent on flights to less-touristy countries in Central and West Africa which I will be visiting by myself in Sept/Oct: Namibia, Angola, São Tomé and Príncipe, Gabon, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Chad, Mali and Mauritania.
The most nerve-racking part about all of this is that I need to have these flight confirmations to start applying for 4 visas right now (Angola, Cameroon, Chad & Mali) — and if any of those 4 African visas get denied, then I will have to cancel a portion of the trip and I will not get reimbursed for the flight costs. High risk, high reward!
In case you are wondering, I made this video for a few reasons:
A) I like to be honest & transparent with you in all my videos, and budgeting is very important for any traveler
B) I think it’s often overlooked how expensive traveling to Africa is, so I want to tell you (again) the reality of traveling on this continent. Sure, you CAN do it on the cheaper side, but I don’t have the time to go overland or the energy to sleep in dirty hostels. I also need access to (the best) wifi everyday so I can work and upload videos!
Truth be told, I am really excited for this trip and to witness the hidden cultures in these African countries first-hand. Have you ever been to any of these 9 countries in Africa?
