The first time I heard about Babylon was in first grade — my teacher taught me that human civilization started in ancient Mesopotamia, at the intersection point of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Well, not only did I just visit that exact place where the two rivers meet (in the center of Iraq), but I ventured deep into BABYLON. This ancient civilization dates back to the 19th Century BC, and is absolutely mind blowing. The best part is that my buddy Alvaro and I were THE ONLY ONES THERE.
If these ruins were in a country like Italy or Spain, then they would be the most visited sites on earth… But sadly, we are deep in the heart of Iraq, a nation that has been torn apart by war and turmoil over the last 30 years.
I’ve been to 194 countries and I’ve seen a lot of cool things and places, but this ranks up there as one of the best. It might just be number 1. It’s really hard to put into words the feeling of walking these grounds, which are still being excavated to this day.
I hope that you guys enjoy our adventure around Babylon and that you learn something new. I am so grateful to have this platform and be able to share my experiences with you, because so few outsiders get to come here. Thanks for reading this and I’ll see you next week!
