This morning, I woke up at 4AM to watch the sunrise over Angkor Wat, and I was quickly accompanied by 6,000 tourists, pushing and shoving their way to get the perfect shot of the temple’s reflection over the pond.
The truth is, this situation exists at any big landmark/tourist attraction that is located in an easily accessible country. Tourists are everywhere.
BUT IS THIS SUCH A BAD THING?
Too many people speak negatively about ‘touristy places’ — like Bali or Bangkok. But do you realize how important tourism is for these local economies? Moreover, do you realize WHY a place becomes touristy in the first place? Because it is THAT amazing to see!
This video explains my opposing argument about why tourists DO NOT ruin travel. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this matter.
